F11 screenshot save

Is there a 'user.cfg' parameter somewhere where I can get the screen text to switch off when I hit the F11 key for saving screenshots. I should remember to manually switch off text first, but on many occasions I forget to do that and later realize it wasn't the screenshot I wanted. It would be nice if F11 can do this automatically for me. Is there a way this can be done?

You can turn off GUI, open main.cfg and change GUIMode to 0. Turning off GUI automatically is a good idea. I place it in my local TODO list smile

I see, this is some kind of trade-off. smile

I'm thinking some more here: The F11 key would need to switch the current text mode off, then take the screenshot, then switch itself back to the previous text mode. I can imagine you've already thought about this? smile

I see a few other people requested a temporary way to disable the HUD for screenshots too. I've only just seen this thread now:

This is the thread here

I just thought I would clarify your intention: You mentioned overriding the HUD using 'GUImode' there too, but those guys were specifically requesting the same thing as me when using F11: It should be disabled only temporarily. So F11 would switch temporarily to GUI mode = 0, then it should return to its previous state of either 1 or 2.

I would suggest that 'GUIMode' remains at its default value of '2.' The HUD readout is the first thing we look at when we start our exploring.

Ok, It made: Now F11 saves a screenshot without HUD. If you want to save it with HUD, open main menu and press "Save screenshot" (main menu itself automatically closes before screenshot capture).

Additionally, I improve screenshot capture code, so it is bit faster now. In video capture mode (F9) screens are saved in new folder "/screenshots/capture", overwriting old screens (ignoring the find of last saved file procedure increases speed greatly). When you hit F9, "Frame Time Mode" and "Immediately Loading Mode" are toggled automatically (SpaceEngine switches to semi-offline rendering mode). Then when you hit F9 again, SpaceEngine stops to record screens and switches back to normal mode. In video record mode you must toggle the HUD off yourself.

This looks good to me. Nice job. Good idea with the F9 key switching modes like that. That will help the newcomers who want to do video - and without ever having to know what frame time is smile

Anyway, obtaining smooth video is impossible if in free fight mode and is hard in inertia mode. Here must be some other ways... Recording the path of camera is one way. Another is implementing of spaceships physics and recording flights of ships, in first or third person mode.

That's why I had suggested a forth flight mode [back in this thread], knowing what the current restrictions are with these three flight modes. Of course, only you can know how best this can work, all I can do is offer a different perspective on this.

I do know that the game SpaceForce 2 had a very good inertia control system, it was highly customizable, which I think would work really well in your engine. It would also give players more control in how they would like to fly, in addition to being another nice feature for the engine.
