Black hole light distortion.

Firstly, I will adress my thanks to SpaceEngeener and the developement team for this incredible effect, that allows a better comprehension of this phenomenon.

But I noticed one thing that seemed to me not acurate. I understand that the positions of the stars will be different when viewed from near a black hole, because the trajectory of their light was curved before reaching our virtual" eye. But I think the lens flares cannot be distorded so, because the processus that create them (diffraction on the camera objective) happens after the light passes near the black hole.

What do you think about it ?

It makes for cool effects when done right, but is very inaccurate because flaring happens inside the lens. Also, the flare position should change based on where we view the star.

I know. But I can't make a proper effect for now - it is too hard. So this "unproper" effect is better than nothing for now.

The black hole sucks light! dry

OpenGL 3.0 is the best OpenGL for SE. Trust me. ;)

We were talking about the lens flare and the apparent position of the star. We know that black holes bend light but it should not bend the lens flaring.

EDIT: Is it possible to change the position of the texture that makes the lens flare so it is always in front of objects, like how the ghosts are in this picture?

Yes, but if you rotate yourself around black hole so star is behind it, the image of the star gets distorted and shifted away, while the center of the lens flare will not change its position, as if there is no black hole between you and the star. SE doesn't calculate actual light bending, it's just a renderer post-process effect. Actual calculation may be made, but it requires special developement - it will be made in future.
