Barycenters appearing as stars...

Okay as my thread name obviously suggests is that I find this somewhat odd and very unnecessary...

As I would like to suggest is: Why don't you just keep the big + (when orbits turned ON).

It also rather looks like a triple star system while it is actually a binary system... shok

Maybe there's a way in one of my SE directories to turn it off though.

Anyway, here are some screenies:

I think this is done to save processing power, soncidering it would probably take a lot of memory to render all binary stars in the sky seperately; so if they are rendered as a single star (the barycentre) until you come close, it is a lot less work for the program. Though I do think the distance at which the program stops making the barycentre a star (0.01 pc) is too small and should probably be increased tenfold so the cases where we can actually see the barycentre star seperately are very few.

I occasionally stream at http://www.twitch.tv/magistermystax. Sometimes SE, sometimes other games.

I think it does render the stars and barycenter both actually, though, that's the issue that I think n3xt is trying to bring up.

Planetary systems (planets, components of binary and multiple systems) do not exist until you approach them. This is the only way to handle almost unlimited Universe on a regular PC. So you may see how the star suddenly gets split in two when you approach it. And then when you flying back, that initial star may appear at the system's center. This is becuase planetary system and the far star field are rendered in a different way, and it is quite hard to make a star field sprite clipping distance to be changed after the system has been being generated.

BTW, this issue has been raised many many times before, you should use search function.

@SpaceEngineer: I think the point n3xt was trying to make is that the barycenter sprite still appears (sometimes, depends on the system being viewed) when at the usual 'go to object' distance and that it should be turned off at that distance.

Yeah I agree what Sergeant Major James (lol joke) smjjames is trying to explain it pretty simplified. Is indeed to remove the unnecessary sprites (stars) as being placed in the big ''+'' as barycenters...

Here are a few more screenies of another system:
