Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • First of all, make sure you updated your video card drivers. This may solve 99% of all issues.
  • Read the Fixing common issues section below. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.
  • Read the List of known issues section below and make sure that your bugs are not on in it. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.
  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the se.log and is located in the SpaceEngine/system/ directory). Only the log file will help us to understand your problem and find a solution!

    Fixing graphics card-specific issues

If you do not know which graphics card (chip) do you have, open the system/se.log file in the text editor and read the Vendor information in the beginning:

    INITIALIZING OPENGL
    [MT] Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.

Then look for a solution for you:

    Nvidia: Major lag spikes

Intel HD: Glitchy landscape and textures on planets

Intel HD: Red clouds on Earth

    Intel HD: Black screen

    Fixing common issues

    1) Obsolete or incompatible drivers

    2) Weak system

    3) System with hybrid graphics (NVidia/ATI + Intel HD)

    4) Artifacts on procedural planets

    5) Frequent crashing while generating planetary surface

    6) Blurry textures on Solar system planets

    7) Problems with very high resolution displays

    List of known issues

Green items have been fixed for the next release

Not real bugs, but effects caused by limitations in the engine:

    Real bugs:

do you have any errors or warnings in the log file?

    I do.

[MT] WARNING: System of star "RSC 0-0-0-31-1072-4-1828-107" appears multiple times in the render list.

This is repeated multiple times and revisiting the system shows no atypical graphical glitches, so I'm assuming this error is irrelevant. Could it possibly be a driver issue? I'm using 365.10.

    Edit:
    what

Atmosphere shadows work, ground shadows don't (for the visible rings). I'm lost

This is definitely a strange message.
I could well imagine that it has something to do with it.
It seems to indicate that something is wrong with the memory organization.
But the message could also be caused by add-ons. If you are using add-ons.

About the graphics driver I can not say anything. I do not have Nvidia card.

Maybe you could post your 'se.log'. Best when just such an bug has occurred.

Have you occasionally also such messages as in the screenshot?

Such glitches I get regularly when I'm working with the planet editor.

It could indeed. Last release I see it's 372.54 for my card, try updating.

it just rotates the camera not to the object itself, but sets it perpendicular to some weird place

Well, this may be stuck joystick/keyboard button which is bound to "look left/look right/etc" action on the Camera controls tab in the Controls settings menu.

I have no idea how to describe this bug.

Clear the cache, and never install new SE version in the same folder as the previous one.

Hey, guys, I would really like to know how to reset ALL settings in SE, like everything.

    Delete the file config/user-main.cfg

When I switch off the night side lights, the stars become blacked out when I come close to them. Switching night side lights on, makes them visible again. Has anybody else the same effect?

This is normal. As well as turning gas giants into a detail-less ball if switching off clouds.

This is the Steam version. Should I delete and redownload?

First of all I would do what Mosfet said:

    Update the driver.

Then delete the folder 'cache' in the 'SpaceEngine' directory. Only this folder!

I hope I'm posting in the right place. If not, feel free to delete this.
I've installed .980 version and can't get it to open. Every time I try to open it I get a message that says the program has stopped working. I'm using Windows 10. Any ideas why it isn't working for me?

I installed the version 0.9.8, but all the planets and stars are invisible or transparent, even after installing the SolarSystem HD addon.
    Can anybody help me?

    Andune2709,
    I'm afraid you're unlucky.
Your Intel graphics card is too old.
I think to work with SpaceEngine 0.980, it must be at least 'Intel® HD Graphics 4500'. The OpenGL version is too old.
