SE 0972 crashes constantly after startup

I just downloaded and installed the new version of SE 0972. I installed it on my HP Z17 laptop with Intel i7-4600M 2.9GHz Quad Core, 8GB RAM, Win7 Enterprise 64 bit, and nVidia K3100M GPU with 4GB VRAM.

When I load up the game and go to a planet, if I hold the right mouse button and move the camera around, after a few seconds the game will crash. I've tried various LOD settings, windowed/fullscreen, and tried messing with the videomemory settings in the main.cfg.

In addition, when travelling from one object to another, the game will hang for maybe 10 seconds, and then pop up wherever I was headed, instead of traveling to it. It may freeze and unfreeze four or five times before the new object is fully loaded. This absolutely kills the experience.

Any ideas?

nVidia K3100M

SE does not work very well with Quadro GPUs, so I'm not sure if the suggestions I'm about to give will help.

Try to disable nebulae (Settings > View).

Set Threaded optimization to off for SE in Nvidia control panel/Nvidia Inspector. This is listed in the troubleshooting thread OP.

I have a Quadro (K1100) card. Setting my loading mode to interleaved helped. Nebulae are hit and miss. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

still not working here either. BSOD and 'program not responding'. appalled by customer support and lack of it.
