Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • First of all, make sure you make a clean install of SpaceEngine and update your video card drivers. This may solve 99% of all isues.
  • Read the Fixing common issues section below. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.
  • Read the List of known issues section below and make sure that your bugs are not on in it. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.
  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the se.log and is located in the SpaceEngine/system/ directory). Only the log file will help us to understand your problem and find a solution!

    Fixing videocard-specific issues

If you do not know which videocard do you have, open the system/se.log file in the text editor and read the Vendor information in the beginning:

    INITIALIZING OPENGL
    [MT] Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.

Then look for a solution for you:

    Nvidia: Major lag spikes

ATI/AMD: Transparent or invisible planets, no landscape

ATI/AMD: Crash on approaching to the black hole, neutron star or white dwarf, on using ship's hyperdrive, or when enabling the Oculus Rift mode or the Fish Eye mode

Intel HD: Glitchy landscape and textures on planets

    Intel HD: Crash near planets

Intel HD: Red clouds on Earth

    Fixing common issues

    1) Obsolete or incompatible drivers or strange error message "(NULL) 2.1 (NULL)"

    2) Weak system

    3) System with hybrid graphics (NVidia/ATI + Intel HD)

    4) Artifacts on procedural planets

    5) Frequent crashing while generating planetary surface

    6) Spaceship disappears when far from a star

    7) Blurry textures on Solar system planets

    8) Crash on entering the Display menu

    9) Problems with very high resolution displays

    List of known issues

Green items have been fixed for the next release

Not real bugs, but effects caused by limitations in the engine:

    Real bugs:

one thing: if you want to solve the lag when you're close to a planet or, at the surface go in main.cfg: "PlanetTextureRes 328 // texture resolution"and change 328 with 128, with me to work well and eliminated the lag, however, does not increase the speed of loading surface and crash which for me are very frequent.

Hello. I am an American player and i just bought a new computer after my last one ran very poorly on space egnine.

    Specs:

Intel i3-4130 processor (the graphics card)

    8GB of RAM memory

    OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit

    Issues:

When i go to a star system in any galaxy, the galaxy suddenly becomes binded to my screen and won't move when i turn my camera. When i turn on skybox, the skybox that is generated is very distortedd and erroneous. Then, if i go to intergalactic space, SpaceEngine becomes extremely laggy and weird. Screenshots are attachments to this thread,,

Now, if i only knew how to procide you with more information.......

super, troubleshooting problems belong in this thread. Consult the opening post for instructions, and please be sure to also review the forum rules and sticky threads before posting.

It seems you are running SE on an integrated graphics card, and this is probably related to your problem.

    Hi there,
I've encountered a terrain texture error in every planet, as the images below shows.

It's a newly installed 0.972 beta version. I've tried almost every configurations in the display and graphic settings but won't work. Can anyone help me plz? Thanks a lot.

    CPU: Intel Core i7 4770HQ Quad-core 2.2GHz
Display: Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200
    OS: Windows 8.1

Are your drivers up to date? That would be my first port of call. After that I would try to re-download SE, However if you say downloaded the installer try the .zip archive. After that and those have failed try SE on another computer if you have one, It would help distinguish if it is a computer specific thing or just that version.

Not all that helpful in terms of solutions but it can help narrow it down. If you could also attach the log file so others who can help with be able to distinguish much better than I can.

    Two bugs :

Found a volcano on a Titan, but when I was near, it looked glitched: lava trails were replaced by discontinuities on the bump map :

Found an asteroid with atmosphere :

PS : if you want to retrieve locations, replace the "8416" by "8409", as I added galaxies.

Wow that's beautifull. Maybe soon or later SE's comets would have jets and haze like that.

HIP 81145 is SERIOUSLY bugged. I advise to stay away from it.

I can confirm this bug. Approaching anywhere near this star will cause observer to glitch out into the void, literally billions of Gpc from anywhere and unable to move without reopening the program.

This is one of the more severe catalog star bugs I have seen, and the corresponding entry in the ExoPlanetsSuns.sc file should be fixed or removed. SE displays the system diameter as 1.#IO Gly/Gpc, which is probably related to the problem. I'm guessing the ultimate cause is the usual bad catalog data that we often see (the star is a B5II, which should be a very luminous -4.5, but the calculated magnitude is +5), and somehow this is throwing off the system size.

I think this is caused because the star model is bigger than the place where we can move (and so bigger than the SE universe cube), so the collision detector just teleport us everywhere. I manage to go back to normal using the chart mode.

It stopped glitching, and I was forced to return manually to a more common place following the cursor. Then I entered the universe cube and I noticed my relative speed was moving (I was "following HIP 81145", still in chart mode). I selected fast a galaxy, and it went back to normal.

Another bug i noticed, do you have it ?

There are black regions on asteroids sometimes :

But, when I go there and terrain is loading, it start to be tiled-like :

    Then it dissapear :

Try opening it with administrator or moving it to a less restrictive folder like your documents, I've seen SE needing admin permissions to fully install(create log, cache ect.) in the default install location. I also know of some programs not working correctly on bootcamp, That may be the issue also as I have not seen anyone mention bootcamp on these forums. If you can, copy the SE folder onto a PC and try it(After trying admin permissions first).
