Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • First of all, make sure you make a clean install of SpaceEngine and update your video card drivers. This may solve 99% of all isues.
  • Read the Fixing common issues section below. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.
  • Read the List of known issues section below and make sure that your bugs are not on in it. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.
  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the se.log and is located in the SpaceEngine/system/ directory). Only the log file will help us to understand your problem and find a solution!

    Fixing videocard-specific issues

If you do not know which videocard do you have, open the system/se.log file in the text editor and read the Vendor information in the beginning:

    INITIALIZING OPENGL
    [MT] Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.

Then look for a solution for you:

    Nvidia: Major lag spikes

ATI/AMD: Transparent or invisible planets, no landscape

ATI/AMD: Crash on approaching to the black hole, neutron star or white dwarf, on using ship's hyperdrive, or when enabling the Oculus Rift mode or the Fish Eye mode

Intel HD: Glitchy landscape and textures on planets

    Intel HD: Crash near planets

Intel HD: Red clouds on Earth

    Fixing common issues

    1) Obsolete or incompatible drivers or strange error message "(NULL) 2.1 (NULL)"

    2) Weak system

    3) System with hybrid graphics (NVidia/ATI + Intel HD)

    4) Artifacts on procedural planets

    5) Frequent crashing while generating planetary surface

    6) Spaceship disappears when far from a star

    7) Blurry textures on Solar system planets

    8) Crash on entering the Display menu

    9) Problems with very high resolution displays

    List of known issues

Green items have been fixed for the next release

Not real bugs, but effects caused by limitations in the engine:

PlutonianEmpire, you're using integrated Intel graphics, which are not guaranteed to run SE correctly. Read the opening post for suggestions on some things to try when using Intel, but if none of those work then there's probably nothing you can do but upgrade your computer.

Bummer. I was afraid it would be my system having issues. wacko Thank you for checking. smile

    Specs: Dell Inspiron 5547 (Laptop); 8 gigabytes of RAM; Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz; Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit; Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 4400 (That's all there is :( )

Hello, a very strange bug here. I went to check out asteroid Ida and its moon Dactyl, which orbit between Mars and Jupiter - and found them to be melting under the heat of some unknown source! Ida is glowing white and Dactyl red. I checked out other asteroids nearby and all were normal. What could be doing this to Ida?

    Screenshots attached, including graphics settings.

I have never observed this. Are you flying gently to the surface, or crashing into it at high speed?

It happens at crash speeds as well as for gentle touchdowns. Does not happen very often but is bothersome and disorientating when it does. The camera flipping is instant or "in a flash", not a motion that the eye can track.

I've observed it sometimes, too, as well as in earlier versions. Not sure what the precise nature of its cause is but I figured it was "normal" behavior for how the system presently works.

The bug with red clouds on Earth on Inel HD is fixing by updating drivers (again!). The lates are 8 January 2015.

Don't know if I should call it a bug, but I feel double planets are way too common, and moons are always way too close... I tried to find a moon with about the same orbit as earth's moon. Couldn't find one.

    Hello again!

Amazing that solved the flickering issues! biggrin Thank you very much!

The only other issue appears to be related to LOD loading near shorelines. After SpaceEngine has finished loading I can see terrain glitches that disappear when reducing LOD, or moving the camera closer. I might be describing this poorly so here are some example images:

Clouds are disabled, atmosphere at sea level is disabled and all the images have finished loading.

    LOD: 2 (clipping)

LOD: 1.8 (less clipping but still some artifacts)

LOD: 1.6 (no clipping or artifacts)

Thank you for your time smile

I don't understand how the star shaders look good on the screen shots.
The sprite star shaders appear to look the same as point star shaders.
I'll try to make look like in the pictures.

Star mode "points" and "sprites" looks the same. This is right! This switch changes the rendering technology, not the visual appearance.

I think this isn't supposed to be there:

This is probably just a catalog error

easterninferno, you are running Windows XP, and this version is incompatible with it. I will make a patch soon which fixes this issue.
And please use search function next time.

No, they probably won't, unless you would like to help with the effort of fixing every single error in the hundreds of thousands of catalog stars. Most of these errors arise because most star catalogs record apparent magnitudes and parallax, not true magnitudes. So things like interstellar reddening will affect how SE calculates star properties.

    That's astronomy 101, folks.
