Not all clouds will be white, right?

They aren't all white now; desert planet's clouds are based on the color of the planet's surface, to simulate dust.

I think that 3D water isn't less important than 3D clouds. 3D water and 3D clouds are together more important than aurorae or procedural galaxies and nebulas

No, because this is an astronomy program, and it makes a lot more sense to add missing or underdeveloped astronomical objects and phenomena than to make clouds and water look better. And clouds are more important than water because far more worlds have clouds than water, and the clouds are encountered far more readily.

If you absolutely can not live without pretty water until SE gets it, you can always play Crysis wink

There's a nice NVidia island demo if you really can't wait.

Okay, not all of them. For instance, terras need some more variation.

It's pointless for me to download this tech demo. I've got an AMD video card. wink

Terra clouds are formed by a hydrological cycle. Water clouds are white. Ergo, terra clouds should be white.

Do all the terras have oceans made of water?

EDIT:

I've got an AMD video card.

I'm not sure if that really matters. I don't think it means you can't run the demo; it probably just means it won't take advantage of nvidia-specific features, but maybe I'm wrong (since I do have an Nvidia card).

Many nvidia tech demos are not running on AMD cards. Not at all or at least not without a specific patch.

Yes, by definition.

That specific one (the island one) works on any DX11 card, though. But I think such quality water won't be in SE for a long time. Maybe simple waves, but not on this detail level. Either way, I'm not a fan of tesselation, in small uses it's ok (like Deus EX HR) but used everywhere (I'm looking at you, Crysis 2) it's annoying.

I do think that in some places the undersides of clouds should be darker (like stormclouds) but I have no idea if this is possibe or if it's even needed. Also, I would like to see cloud shadows.

Yes, by definition.

Whose definition? Terra actually means, by definition, dry land. That is, the opposite of water. Latin Terra and English dry share the same Indo-European root.

In reality I think there are so many different planets out there making it difficult to categorise all of them into a small number of types.,

Crysis 2 used no tessellation in the default game, you had to download the addon tessellation pack, and even then it wasn't "everywhere", just on brick walls and rubble piles and the like, just sort of a here-and-there thing.

Quote (midtskogen)
Whose definition?

The definition by which they were classed in SE. The class was made with the intent that the liquid would specifically be water. Unless I'm just completely insanely wrong, in which case I welcome SpaceEngineer to correct me.

If you have ideas for other surface liquids to be used on similar worlds I'd like to hear them, variety is of course a good thing.

A thread on this subject exists here if you want to discuss any ideas on future improvements of the planet classification system.

You know, i'm not really anticipating on 0.97, I will wait for it, but the only question I want to ask, what does the new milky way look like from the outside. Thanks

Much the same as it does in 0.96 as it is still the same model. The dust sprites have been improved, both in the textures themselves, the variety of them, and in how they're handled, but the overall model has not changed.

I don't think that there could be any other liquids except water on the surface of an earth-like moon or planet, at least not in large amounts. Indeed, on Titan's surface we have lakes and rivers of liquid methane and ethane, but Titan is not earth-like. Maybe there are moons and planets with lakes of sulfuric acid or even planets with lakes of mercury, but they all would not be earth-like. Maybe there could be unknown exotic lifeforms which have adapted to such conditions or maybe which have a basically different metabolism (who can say that?), but these lifeforms would also not be earth-like.

I didn't mean just on Earth-like planets, I meant any plausible surface liquids for solid bodies at all (aside from lava or other molten surface materials).

Ok, your question can be answered with yes. Look at the surface of Titan. There are lakes and rivers of liquid methane. But can somebody tell me if there could be a large amount of mercury on a planet's surface? Which conditions may be present so that there could be lakes and rivers of mercury?
