Space Engineer are you going to modify the algorithm that is responsible for the generation of terras and terras with life in the upcoming release? Or make it modifiable by users? The reason I am asking is because up to now the SE universe has too many terras and terras with life IMHO. Is it possible to reduce it to more pessimistic values? Of course this would make some people unhappy but it would certainly look more realistic (and more challenging and intresting) if life is harder to find ;). Anyway I am really excited with the progress you have made on the upcoming release - keep up the great work!

sound!!!

Only in internal view - ala orbiter style wink . In external view (and provided that you are flying in space and not inside an atmosphere) it is not required - actually not reccommended! Just a nice peace of atmospheric/ambient/instrumental music would be great!

  • New class of a planet - Titan (ice world with a hydracarbon ocean)
  • Fully cloudy planets - Venus like warm deserts and Titans

A bunch of screenshots. Note darkness - titans are cold worlds, far away from their sun.

Orange moon with dense cloud layer, like our Titan:

Black oil sea on its surface:

    Less cloudy moon:

Some wierd canyons can be found on that moon:

    Titan with blue atmosphere:

    Binary titan planet:

    Titan with green atmosphere smile

Wow! :O That's awesome! I wasn't expecting Titans in 0.96, it'll be great fun to explore them. I'm guessing they'll only exist at the Cold and Frozen temperature classes?

Amazing! I'm very excited for the next version, new planet types and all the other changes simply open up SO much more replay-ability, I might not ever be able to stop exploring Space Engine. cool

Amazing! Black oceans is exacly what you would expect for hydrocarbon oceans. Or at least dark brown. Inorganic oceans could be blue as well (think about a o2 ocean in a freezing world).
In any case, a volatile substance like methane would probably be stable at liquid form in a dense atmosphere. Is there any way to put that in the algorythm? (titans could only appear in high pressure atmosphere cold/frozen bodies, or at least be more common in this case)

Atmopshere pressure on our Titan is just 1.6 bar, and temperature is above -180°C. In SE titans will be only cool, cold and frozed ice worlds with an atmosphere.

Why would SE need sound? surprised There's no sound in space, and I think it's much better to let people choose what music they want to play with it themselves in the first place.

From what I understand, Titan is just barely cold enough to have hydrocarbon lakes, which is why the lakes are concentrated near the winter pole, where it is cold enough for methane to condense and precipitate all the way to the ground. If that is so, then titans could only be "frozen" class, unless they contained primarily ethane instead, which is more rare.

Well, to be fair, some ambient wind sounds for planets with atmospheres would be a nice touch.

The black oil oceans reminds me of the class of hypothesized planets called Carbon planets. Which leads me to asking any plans on adding something like these. Would be cool to find very specific types of worlds in regions of space with older stars.
