Please post here all of your reports about bugs or crashes in SpaceEngine. Before you post any bugs, please follow these steps:

  • First of all, make sure you updated your video card drivers. This may solve 99% of all isues.
  • Read the Fixing common issues section below. It is possible that your problem can be solved there.
  • Read the List of known issues section below and make sure that your bugs are not on in it. You can use your browser's word finder to help search the list.
  • If the bug is not on the list then please post it in this thread. Attach to your message a screenshot (if possible) and a log file (it's called the se.log and is located in the SpaceEngine/system/ directory). Only the log file will help us to understand your problem and find a solution!



    Fixing videocard-specific issues

    If you do not know which videocard do you have, open the system/se.log file in the text editor and read the Vendor information in the beginning:

    INITIALIZING OPENGL
    [MT] Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.


    Then look for a solution for you:

    Nvidia: Major lag spikes


    Nvidia: Water missing on terras, clouds are below the surface


    ATI/AMD: Crash on approaching to the black hole, neutron star or white dwarf, on using ship's hyperdrive, or when enabling the Oculus Rift mode or the Fish Eye mode


    ATI/AMD: Crash on Startup on Windows 10


    Intel HD: Glitchy landscape and textures on planets


    Intel HD: Red clouds on Earth




    Fixing common issues

    1) Obsolete or incompatible drivers


    2) Weak system


    3) System with hybrid graphics (NVidia/ATI + Intel HD)


    4) Artifacts on procedural planets


    5) Frequent crashing while generating planetary surface


    6) Spaceship disappears when far from a star


    7) Blurry textures on Solar system planets


    8) Problems with very high resolution displays


    9) Problems in Windows 10 + AMD/ATI

    I can't export planets, if I try to export them, there aren't any textures in the export folder.

    Awesome program - really enjoying learning to use it.

    Is there some reason the options in the Editor function in the main menu are intermittant? Sometimes the Edit planet option creates the option display but usually it does not highlight & does nothing when selected.

    The available options depend on what object is selected in the planetarium, if any. Obviously you cannot edit a planet if none is selected.

    So I downloaded the open alpha and went back to that planet of mine with those weird volcanic features I showed here, and it's mich better. Still weird, but much better.

    Lava flowing from what looks like cracks in the ground, not a volcano:


    X marks the spot? Nah. Just a meandering, pretty regular lava flow.


    Another view of the one above. I told you it was weird.


    A peculiar volcano. Looks like the land got pinched between two fingers and lava flows from the crevices.
    (nice structires in the background, BTW. I don't remember seing such terrain. Is it new?)

    I noticed that, when "planet shine" is active, a sudden change of the atmosphere brightness takes place around dawn/sunset times on planets. Being not very good in explaining it with words, I prepared the following video:



    I firstly thought that this was happening at the precise moment when the sun appears/disappears over the horizon, but it is not the case. And it is a very abrupt change in brightness: no matter how much you slow the time down, it always happens within one single frame.

    SE have limited number of light sources - 4. If some moon or planet becamomes brighter as it moves near the current object, it may enter this "top 4", superseding some previsous object. So lighting will change suddenly.

    Not sure if it has been reported before, but in 0.973 (and I think the 0.974 public test as well), I'm noticing incorrect lighting assignment for rings, in systems with more than one star. I am unsure if it's a bug, or an issue with my Integrated Intel. In my screenshot, it is a custom system.

    EDIT: I was looking at it wrong, it was just underside lighting from the companion stars. But what I was trying to post about was that randomly, planet rings look inappropriately lighted, with them going partially dark in the wrong places when viewed from certain angles.

    When you try and click a planet/moon while it's apparent magnitude is infinite(for example, while you are looking at it directly from the night side and it is pitch black or while it is totally eclipsed by a larger body) it becomes unclickable. I assume that this was implemented so that extremely distant and invisible objects(stars 3 Glys away) wouldn't be clickable.

    I made a post some time ago about not being able to see my cursor and having my gui bugged, I was told to just re-download the game and try changing the gui skin. Re-downloading didn't help and I can't change the gui skin, it just doesn't let me click the option.

    you have too install spaceengine 0.9.7.2 first then extract the patch files (0.9.7.3) in your SpaceEngine0972 folder.

    Hello

    I seem to be having a problem with Space Engine in both versions. In 0.9.7.2, Space engine will start up just fine, I can do anything in the menu, but when I get into the planetarium, it loads for a few seconds, maybe 10 or so, and then it crashes. Windows 7 gives me a notification saying that my Display driver stopped responding and has recovered successfully. I thought this was quite odd, considering that it managed to crash my entire display for a second.

    I then decided to try to update to 0.9.7.3, hoping that would fix the issue. This, though, Doesn't even let the game get to the main menu. It says Initializing the Filesystem and then crashes.

    What is happening? Is it fixable, and if so how do I fix it? My specs are posted below.

    AMD FX-6300 6-Core 3.50 GHz
    8.00 GB RAM
    AMD ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics
    1024 MB VRAM

    Edit: You may be asking why I have that GPU with the other specs, and well, it's called a low budget.

    Edit 2: It seems that any time I go into the planetarium, even with 0.9.7.1, it crashes. Something with the planetarium just instantly kills my computer. After the game freezes, if I try to right click or click anything else it will lock up my computer, seeming to freeze the graphics card until the game crashes. I also tried 0.9.6 and that one I was able to do everything OK, with some reduced settings of course.
