Thermal emission from the dayside would be swamped by the reflected light of the star. (You wouldn't notice it). The glow would be most evident on the dark side, assuming the region is hot enough to glow, which it probably wont if the planet is in synchronous rotation.

Edit: Or you may see glow on the nightside if the planet is very volcanically active as DoctorOfSpace points out. An example being the Jovian moon Io.

which it probably wont if the planet is in synchronous rotation.

Unless the planet has a thick atmosphere; hot jupiters or other similar worlds would probably be glowing-hot at all parts of their visible surfaces due to atmospheric circulation.

I've discovered that many terras with life has an atmospheric pressure of approx. 0.7 atm, or 0.3 atm. Will it in the new release be larger variation of the atmospheric pressure of the terras with life?

Love Space Engine!

That would be if the planet were not highly geologically active and simply in close proximity to it's parent star. However there would still be worlds where geologic activity is extremely high and the crust is constantly reshaping itself and during night it would not cool down that fast.

e.g. moon or orbiting giant planet where gravitation force of the giant and other moons causes rapid or abrupt tectonic activity

Finally, implemented ship lights. Also, implemented color specular textures - note golden sunspot on the hyperdrive rings.
This is updated SHW's "Y-wing" model. Lights is poorly noticeable when ship is brightly illuminated by the sun.

But at the dark side, heat radiators glowing are clearly visible.

Habitable modules have a set of windows and some marker lights.

At the edge of the system with real brightness on:

And no, planets night side / lava lights is not implemented yet, planets is completely different subsystem of the engine.

There is a plan to make a heat glow effect with a different shader (similar to star surface shader), with ability to control temperature from the main SE code. Temperature of radiators must depend on the reactor/engines load. It is possible to make a heat-glowing engine nozzles and a heat shield of the aero-breaking shuttle.

My goal is to combine heat glow texture and simple color lights texture into one, which will reduce memory consumption. This is most important for planets, because having 2 additional texture layers for a planet with volcanic activity and artificial/bio lights will double required memory. These artificial/bio lights can't share the same place with lava flow anyway, so combine them into a single texture is possible. Alpha channel will have a mask which changes the rendering method.

Wow that is great work! How bright do the ships appear from far away? Can I switch the lights off on just my ship for a "stealth" mode? Blinking lights? I have so many questions smile

This mean that now spaceships can be rendered in interstellar space? cry

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.
