I "vote" for the second, the new nebula seems better to me smile

I actually think the new galaxy model looks better. In the old one, the dust appears much thinner (judging from its opacity) than it does in real life, as shown in the following photo:

In the old galaxy model, there are almost no areas where the dust completely blocks the area behind it, while in the new galaxy model and in the picture shown there are a large number of areas where the gas does block the area behind it.

You can increase dust opacity by modifying galaxy models.cfg parameter:

Code

absParticleBrightnessCenter 12.0 // original value = 8.0
    absParticleBrightnessEdge   7.5 // original value = 5.0

this will make your milky way look like:

which is a bit too much but I did that because I was trying to reduce lluminosity of the bright parts of the galaxy without affecting the brightness of the galaxy when viewed from outside the galactic disk and a bith further out (i.e. from the close intergalactic space).

3) For nebula emission sprites, used old dust sprites like Retsof suggested here.

I'm working on utility that combines a CSV databases downloaded from Exoplanet encyclopedia and NASA exoplanet archive into a single database and converts it into SE format. I also have a plans to use CSV format for huge SE catalogs (like exoplanets, galaxies and asteroids) - it loading much faster than scripts, and probably will have less size.

That would be very nice, a lot of new exoplanets have been discovered and there are bilions of it that awaits to be discovered!
