Actually we are being brainwashed as well. At least if you are watching mainstream media.

What's truly sad is that is that as bad as the NK government is, this video is pretty accurate in most respects (it hasn't really told me anything I don't already understand). All they have to do to create propaganda about us is to tell the truth... of course, the glimpses we see of NK in the film are pretty scripted themselves; they should ask their "Dear Leader" to close the concentration camps housing multiple generations of political prisoners.

So really, both sides are bad, but that's nothing new these days.

I forget the last time I turned on a TV to watch the news. I'll usually use Google News to get a broad overview of articles and events (or is the system Google uses to find articles evil and corrupted? uh oh). I don't watch anything on TV at all- I hate advertising. (Everyone reading this who hasn't already downloaded an ad-blocking plugin for your browser- well, there's something for your to do list.)

I just try to be thankful that I can look beyond such filth and politics and think for myself. To be enlightened- or more importantly, to be free of the opposite of that, is something to be happy about.

Wow, that was a remarkably good documentary, propaganda or no. Enough truth to it to be interesting, and I almost wonder if Westerners were their target audience in addition to North Koreans. Also, quoting Richard Dawkins earns an automatic +1. The last couple of minutes were complete lols though.

Actually it can make you very unhappy if you're the only one around. An ignorant community will usually be a lot happier than a lonely enlightened person.

Perhaps- it's the question of whether ignorance or enlightenment is bliss. I look at people caught up in these problems and think- well, at least I'm not one of them- at least I was raised under the right circumstances to see the world as it is. Either way, you're seeing an unhappy picture; it's just a question of whether you see the problems you're supposed to see or the actual problems. IMHO it is better to know a war on terror is an unattainable goal used as an excuse for the goals of horrible people than to actually be worried about terrorism, or terrorists.

Are the people who are ignorant really that happy? They are often dissatisfied with themselves, looking to buy new things, etc.

It really boils down to that philosophical question for which the answer is subjective. smile

EDIT: Of course, it's not like everything's bad. There are may good things to be found in modern culture and art, and many intelligent people who are above the kind of mentality shown in those videos (like us wonderful SE forum members). I think that because these good things don't cause as many problems, they are overlooked.

You can use a non-square avatar, the only constraint on avatar size is that its longest side can't be more than 140 pixels, and it can't be more than 150 kB which any non-animated image won't be.

EDIT: I'll never recognize you without that black hole biggrin

It was about time for a change. My new avatar is a mixture of inspiration and influance from Doctor Of Space's avatar, this thread and Space Engineer's nation past history with socialism and space exploration. I hope it doesn't cause any offence to anybody wink
