Why is OGL 4.0 even listed? SE only uses 3.0 features as far as I know.

I moved my edit to the correct thread. We should move these two posts too. Also, it was only 3.0 to begin with. Someone edited the system specs box with some crazy nonsense (open GL 35 and 40).

I wonder what is the minimum take-off wind speed for that jet to become airborn unsure

A lot more than that. Most of its weight was still supported by its gears rather than lift, and anyway takeoff under influence of ground effect won't get you very far. Also worth noting that that aircraft was gutted and weighed much much less than an operational one would.

I'm trying to figure out how to write the volume of my space station. SketchUp tells me it is

183,288,933.671374 meters³

The smallest possible box the station fits into perfectly is has a length of 2,000 meters, width of 250 meters, and height of 2,000 meters.
250m*2000m*2000m = 1,000,000,000m³, or 1Gm³

This is all correct, right? gigameters³ is different than a cubic gigameter which is the volume of a cube with a side length of 1,000,000,000 meters. Right?

Yep, all correct. smile

In scientific notation, you may write it as 1.83(etc)x108m3.
1Gm3 means one billion cubic meters. A cubic gigameter on the other hand is a box with side lengths of 1000 one million kilometers, thus having a volume of 1018 1027 cubic meters. (Quite a bit larger). tongue
There are one billion (10003) cubic meters in a cubic kilometer, so you could also write it as 0.18km3.

Edit: Whoops, how did I think there were 1000 km in a Gm? Derp.

Huh? 1 Gm³ = 1027 m³, not 109 m³. That is, 1000 quadrillions (European scale) or 1 octillion (modern English scale). Fortunately, you can't interpret 1 Gm³ as (1 G)m³ at the same time as 1 km³ would be interpreted as 1 (km)³ rather than (1 k)m³. That would be very confusing...

EDIT: Perhaps one could write 1G m³ for 109 m³, but I don't think that is accepted notation.

I don't think it is either, but I think that people would understand it, and it would be very helpful in distinguishing gigameters from billions of meters, which is necessary in cases such as this.

Yes, I should have put a space between the G and the m3 to avoid the ambiguity. I think it was clear what I meant from the rest of the post, though.
