Found this children's Soviet era geographic atlas among some books that my wife has from her childhood:

It covers quite a bit: the world, animals, peoples, space expolarion, polar exploration, etc. It's already a historical document. smile

It does have a picture of an Apollo astronaut, though.

It's suddenly white outside. Good thing that I did put on the snow tyres last night. The forecast was a bit ambiguous.

The science fiction we grew up with in Norway:

Our national broadcaster probably got a lot of stuff from eastern Europa without denting the budget too much. We were still glued to the screen. Science fiction has improved since, though.

I saw recently a soviet masterpiece of animated science fiction.
The fact is that it's quite emotional and profund.

It's called "There Will Come Soft Rains"
There is a lot of good soviet short animated films in the internet:

midtskogen, OMG I can actually remember reading this one. Although, as far as I can remember, the book wasn't only about space, but about other things too.

Yes, it's geology, geography, anymals, nations, etc. This book is from Czechoslovakia, so apparently it was widely used.

Interesting, but I'm still a bit skeptical. There's a working "hoverboard" on Kickstarter:

Yes, and unlike the hoax that surfaced not too long ago, this one appears to be real. It also shows you just how limited and uninteresting these things are when built with real technology, compared to the fictional version.
