It hasn't happened here yet. I usually have my lights off anyway, except for this one light recently because the switch is broken.

None of my lights are on but it doesn't even matter considering my PC uses more energy than all my lights combined. I am just helping the universe on it's journey towards entropy.

I didn't think of it until some time after 21:30, but I'm not a big light polluter anyway. This year it happened before daylight saving, so it was actually pretty dark at 20:30. On the other hand, Earth Hour would actually make more sense before it gets dark when outdoor lighting serves hardly any purpose at all.

EDIT: Oh, I just realised that it's always the night before the [European] daylight saving switch.

I think they do it at night intentionally to make it more visible. The whole point is awareness, it's a symbolic turning off of the lights.

Yeah, I know. It would make more sense to leave the lights off the rest of the year and turn them on during Earth Hour for the symbolism...

No, because the lights are already on. Look at pictures of participating cities, when they turn lights off on large buildings and famous landmarks, the difference is immediately noticeable and striking.

I was criticising the symbolism. It's as if some chemical plant was demonstrating their awareness for the environment by reducing their production and close their central park waste pipe (to make the effect most noticeable and striking) for one hour a year.

And my point was it wouldn't be less striking to the switch on lights on a landmark for one hour than to switch them off, if the symbolism really is important.

I really don't think that conveys the same message.

The next month I will finally buy a new computer! biggrin
I have a budget of 600€ (825$) to buy/assemble a mid-range pc, I will finally be able to work on my game again and... most important: using SE again cry

I'm already starting to look at some of them, but for the model of GPU... which one could I buy with the money I have? (ATI/NVidia/Intel HD)

Also I finally managed to watch Gravity, I kind of liked it, even if the beginning was quite boring...

The universe is not required to be in perfect harmony with human ambition.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4770 GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 270 RAM: 8 GBs

(still don't know why everyone is doing this...)

I would say go Nvidia and depending on your other part choices, get the GTX 750 Ti or the GTX 760
