I'm curious if there's anyone around here that knows about ASMR/listens to it.

For those who don't know what it is;
it is a sensation one may get from specific sounds, whispering, tapping, friction, the list goes on and on. There's a whole community on youtube creating ASMR videos for everyone to watch.
The hypocentre of the sensation is usually in the back of your brain, then branching out to the spine and the other nerves of your body. It's commonly called a braingasm (brain orgasm) and a tingling, goosebumpish feeling.

To experience ASMR all you'll need are headphones (preferably of higher quality [didn't try it with a low quality headset]) and an ASMR vid to listen to (perhaps even watch it, I personally do not). You'll have to turn off all other sounds on the PC, and you should be in an empty, quiet place so you can focus on the sound.
The videos are relatively long, from ~5-20mins, though it does take a while until you experience it.

I don't listen to asmr vids only for the sensation, but for the amazing relaxing sounds aswell.

My favorite videos are these:

You can read more about it here.

In avatar, why didn't they just build a mine using a tunnel boring machine?

Not too far into the film, we're told that a huge deposit of unobtainium is right under the Na'vis' huge tree. This is more than 100 kilometers away. If that's too far, go to the halfway point and drill two tunnels: one towards the village and the other away.

140 years from now, I'll assume some advances were made in tunnel boring technology- it's hardly a stretch considering the other kinds of advancements seen. If the resources to create a TBM aren't available at Hell's gate, then just bring them from Earth on the ISV next time.

The film implies that they knew about the unobtainium before Jake arrives. If they discovered it between the last ISV's ride home and the Venture Star's arrival, and they did not have the ability to manufacture a TBM, then so be it- they'll have to transmit this info home for next time. If they found out about it years ago, and were able to communicate this message back before the venture star (or previous vessel) left, then this should have been on the cargo list.

If it's two far, then why not just head to the midpoint and drill from the middle? There's really no excuse here why this wouldn't work.

After the tunnel is drilled you can mine the unobtainium from right underneath them. Just be careful not to destabilize the tree or anything, and it's done. Send it all through the tunnel. The Na'vi get to keep their home, no one dies horribly, and the RDA gets their fictional superconductor. Everyone's happy. This also provides an opportunity to create an underground transportation network on Pandora, especially for mining other areas.

they needed plot

imo its more likely that any unobtainium would be freely available on nearby asteroidial moons

but then there would be no conflict to drive a story

Who here remembers the ancient days long past when you had to use a physical encyclopedia to look up any information, and how hard this could be, especially if it was out of date? My set is so old that it still has the USSR as an extant nation :3

It's not so long past for me, we only got internet at my parents' house in 2006 surprised I remember those days, and finding reference to the soviet union, east-germany and other countries in encyclopaedias, yeah.

Forums usually have "user titles" or whatever you call them. For example, right now I'm an "explorer".

Is there a list of different titles and the number of posts it takes to reach them?

What's the highest one? I get that they are kind of like ranks based on your participation- observers have barely any posts, and star engineers have thousands.

If you reach 10,000, do you become a multiverse engineer or Type V civilization?

What about 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 posts? Do I become a deity?
