In addition to capturing photos of comet C/2011 L4, I also took a couple of the Moon.

In this one I don't know how much is real surface detail and how much is sharpening artifacts, but it looks nice anyway happy

In this one I decided to crank the ISO up and see what I could get. This is what I got.

What camera and lens did you use?

While I have an ok selection of lenses and I can get up to 2400mm (which will make the moon or sun fill the entire frame nicely), I never get good results because I lack mirror lock-up. sad

I should get a new SLR sometime soon. Before the 2015 total eclipse.

That's a great Cheshire grin. C:

Love the high ISO one, too. That would be really neat to try during a lunar eclipse. smile

That looks great. If you don't mind me asking, where was this taken?

Wow, that's pretty nice, certainly a lot better than any picture I've ever taken. The nebula looks especially great.

My backyard, I live in a fairly rural area so there's some light pollution but not too much. The main issue is trees, which are everywhere and tall. However, if you view the full picture you can see the glaring issues with it, mostly due to that annoying habit of the earth to rotate. http://i.imgur.com/71zwR.jpg

Also, due to my not having used a low light film (and generally having no idea what I was doing), this is the image before touchups in photoshop: http://i.imgur.com/jfsXp.jpg

Even for all those little issues that is still not too shabby. Looks pretty good.

I'm hopefully going to get a good DSLR soon, T-mount adapter, and autoguider, so I can make myself feel better about missing the comet by making some all-sky exposures.
