I coded a bunch of real Solar system asteroids for SpaceEngine. Most of their sizes and albedos are realistic guesses made to conform to their absolute magnitudes. Just paste the code into Asteroids.sc (or the planet catalog of your choice).

This is an open community addon. If there's an asteroid that you want to add, convert it and post the catalog script in a reply. Lets code as many asteroids as we can for SpaceEngine!

This is not completed yet catalogs of asteroids and comets sent to me by one guy. There are many duplicates that should be removed. I have no time to deal with this, maybe you guys can finish this work. Some files may be merged to a single one, ending up with three files: asteroids.sc, comets.sc, cuiperbelt.sc.

In the IAU Minor planet center I found this list where you can find various lists for minor planets (aka asteroids) and comets, as a table or in ASCII format.

For example this is the list of all trojan jupiter asteroids, it's a big file with +6000 objects for just that family. But I can code it for SE with excel quite easily as long is in ASCII format so I will start with this one.

My idea is to code each family of asteroids and when all families are done merge in one file. I think is better to start from zero with the data of the Minor planet center instead checking all the files SpaceEngineer provide us in asteroids_comet.rar.

My only fear is the loading times with such big file in SE would be really long. sad

My work for SE: Click here
Textures for Venus surface in color and the moons of Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
Catalogs of binary stars, brown dwarfs, black holes and neutron stars.
Proxima b (3 versions).

cirax, SpaceEngine has a catalog made from the Minor Planet Center database a long ago. No work is needed in this area.

1950 DA: the asteroid with the highest chance to impact with Earth (in 2880)

Also, a fix of (47171) 1999 TC36: it appears on SE as a single body but, instead, it is a triple system.

n0b0dy, how is it going to be included if no one makes a script for it? That is the purpose of this thread: to make scripts for asteroids.

I was wondering if a wiki would be a good place for scripts to be added collectively so that they could be searched. In which case it might be a nice thing to request as an addition on this site, instead of a thread/sub-forum an SE add-on wiki.

No, it was not added because it is small body. SE catalog contains only ~3000 large asteroids. Adding all known asteroids (over 400k) will just kill FPS, so I was forced to reduce their number. Some famous smaller bodies are also was added manually.

SE add-on wiki

That sounds great and all, but creating and maintaining a website or wiki takes a lot of work, and nobody who works on this site has the time or resources for something like that right now. One day there will be an official site for mods and addons, but until then nothing of that sort will exist unless some user decides to make their own (which, as I mentioned, is not easy to do).

2015 RR245
Wikipedia.
The data I have taken from the IAU Minor Planet Center.

I have classified him as a DwarfPlanet. But of course that is not official! dry

Code
// -*- coding: utf-8 -*-
// 2015_RR245.sc
// Data from: http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/db_search/show_object?object_id=2015+RR245
// 2016.07.13 17:13:02

// Put in 'addons\catalogs\planets'

DwarfPlanet "2015 RR245"
{
    ParentBody  "Sol"

    Radius      350
    AbsMagn     3.8
    SlopeParam  0.15

    Orbit
    {
        Epoch           2457600.5
        SemiMajorAxis   81.4395185
        Period          735
        PericenterDist  33.6909348
        Inclination     7.57484
        Eccentricity    0.586373
        MeanAnomaly     322.64901
        AscendingNode   211.68252
        ArgOfPericen    261.38216
        RefPlane        "Ecliptic"
    }
}

Put the script in 'addons\catalogs\planets'.

(You can also extract the file 'KuiperBelt.sc' from 'Catalogs0974.pak'.
Then put the file in the folder 'data\catalogs\planets' or 'addons\catalogs\planets', and append the script for '2015 RR245' to this file.)

This is not completed yet catalogs of asteroids and comets sent to me by one guy. There are many duplicates that should be removed. I have no time to deal with this, maybe you guys can finish this work. Some files may be merged to a single one, ending up with three files: asteroids.sc, comets.sc, cuiperbelt.sc.

i wonder if it's work on RC3 and how to install correctly?
