? All nebulae and galaxies in SE are already made out of sprites.

Yes, many sprites per nebula...will a single sprite nebula work?

No it would not, and it would look a lot worse than the current nebula system.

Why? I'm using a hubble nebula photos(HI-RES) as a sprite, can you explain how really nebula works in SE?

It is impossible to use a single sprite, that's why you can't do it. And a sprite is a 2D object, so even if you did use a single sprite then all you'd have is a flat texture which always faces the camera, which is very unrealistic. The 3D nebulae and galaxies in SE are made of thousands of 2D sprites arranged in 3D space to create volume and structure.

No, I already told you twice now that it's impossible, SE can not do that.

Have you seen the blue faint nebula near Andromeda in 0.96? It's a single sprite 2d nebula which faces the camera. I bet you haven't, nevermind, I'll do it on my own. Thanks for the concern happy

SE has none of these. Post a screenshot/location code of it if it really exists...

I wonder if someone can do the Antares and Rho Ophiuchi Nebula.

I was wrong, this forum still has a horrible community.

Would be possible to make the colored parts of nebulae more detailed, like the dusty parts? Rather than the huge blurry blob that they are now? The strange thing is, that if I am looking at the right sprites, It seem that there should be more detail there than there is...

I think so but you would have to make your own fictional x and y textures for the nebula that you're working on

Hm... I can't seem to find the texture used for the emissive nebula particles. Perhaps it is part of a shader instead? (In which case I have no idea what to do)

Hm, no response... Maybe I need to clarify what I'm aiming for?

Basically, the standard nebulae use "blobs" of color, like this:

Which, when you get too close, results in something like this:

What I want to do it add a texture to the standard "blob".

Which would lead to something more like this when close in:

The problem is, I can't seem to find the "blob" sprite that is being used... unless it is strictly a shader generation, in which case I wouldn't know where to start.

Well, Space Engine so far made a huge impression on me. I seen that other people talked about or made SF systems, including that Polyphemus system back from 0.96.

So I have decided to make a minnimod featuring a few planets or systems from some SF books I read over the years and enjoyed. Mostly it will be classic mid-century hard SF.

The first will be the Lambda Serpentis system from "blue Planet".

Perhaps suprisingly, since it not only is a 90s creation, it is also an RPG and not a novel.
Still, I decided to choose it as it is very much hard a very well-designed SF and the whole star system is described in detail, right down to planet mass, albedo, orbit etc.

Once I get that done, I plan to follow up with systems from Stanisław Lem's fiction, notably from "The Invncible" and "Solaris". Next in line will probably be a few planets from Joe Haldeman's "Forever War".

After much deliberation, I decided not to make the system from Krzysztof Boruń's "Proxima" trilogy. Don't get me wrong, its a wonderfull novel, hard SF at its best. Still, he sadly chose a very near star for the setting and I don't really feel like filling near-earth systems with fictional planets.

I'm open to suggestions about other systems you might want to see, though preferably from some hard SF novels instead of space operas.

Here is my first attempt at Poseidon, the largely water-covered iconic planet from the Lambda Serpentis system as described in "Blue Planet".
