This is kind of funny, I started working on this same thing last Monday but I didn't see your thread until now. I got through all the stars and most of White Suns planets, but not moons. My planet code is really messy and incomplete though.
I'd rather help you on your project. It doesn't look like anyone is doing Red Sun, so i'll start on that.

I posted my old code if you want to see, but yours is probably better.

Awesome, welcome to the team smile

I used a lot of parameters to customize the look and feel of the planets and moons, so you are welcome to use my work as a reference. Change it where you see fit wink

EDIT: Is there a solar system editor in your plans? Some kind of point & click tool to add stars planets and moon, setup orbital elements and all the parameters that we now have to script.

Maximum - a set of sliders with real time update of orbits.

Quote (Talyn)
Does that mean that our scripts may stop working?

Just procedural surface parameters may not work. For example, "montesDens" is replaced with "montesFraction". Now many landscape types have "xxxFraction" value that describe which amount of surfaces is occuped by this landscape.

Hum I can't wait to get my hands on 0.96 :P

But the firefly system is incomplete. It is composed by 5 main stars but I only had the time to complete (still with bugs) the core star and I don't know how far in development are the other 2 because nobody has reported any progress yet.

Maybe they will now, when they see that 0.96 is closed smile

My latest code is uploaded on this thread so if you want to include it go ahead, but make sure to stress that is a "Work in progress" still very much incomplete. It's not even in Alpha and I think it still has some ugly graphic bugs on the surface of some planets

Here is what I've done with the Red Sun system. Most of the ones that are in should match the TVIN data. I'll double check them later.

These planets and moons are in, and they work:

P-2027(Red Sun)03/Jiangyin
S-2176(Jiangyin)01/Tongyi
S-2176(Jiangyin)02/Dangun
S-2176(Jiangyin)03/Rhilidore

P-2029(Red Sun)04/New Melbourne

P-2028(Red Sun)05/Greenleaf
S-2172(Greenleaf)01/Dyton
S-2172(Greenleaf)02/Agyar
S-2172(Greenleaf)03/Bryson's Rock

P-2030(Red Sun)08/Harvest

P-2027(Red Sun)04/St. Albans
S-2172(St. Albans)01/Pi Gu

P-2028(Red Sun)06/Anson's World
S-2176(Anson's World)02/Spider
S-2174(Anson's World)01/Varley
S-2176(Anson's World)03/Steele

P-2030(Red Sun)09/Jubilee

P-2035(Himinbjorg)01/Aesir
P-2035(Himinbjorg)02/Moab
P-2035(Himinbjorg)03/Brisingamen

P-2038(Heinlein)03/Paquin

These ones are in, but commented out because they make the game crash. I don't know why.
Some of the moons work, but only if you declare them as planets. Go figure.

S-2173(New Melbourne)01/Maria
S-2173(New Melbourne)02/Destiny

S-2174(Harvest)01/Farraday
S-2178(Harvest)02/Higgin's Moon

S-2173(Jubilee)01/Covenant

S-2172(Aesir)01/Bestla
S-2172(Aesir)02/Borr
S-2174(Aesir)03/Odin

P-2035(Himinbjorg)04/Anvil

P-2036(Heinlein)01/Triumph

Here is what is still missing:

6 moons from the Himinbjorg system
2 planets and 6 moons from the Heinlein system

Aaaand I just saw the new update that came out a few days ago. I hope that doesn't invalidate what I just posted.

If you not specify the procedural surface parameters, your script should work. But make sure you use these lines for a planets/moons, that should NOT have atmosphere, rings, etc:

NoAtmosphere true
NoOcean true // (have a sense only for terras and titans)
NoClouds true
NoRings true

Okay this all sounds good and exciting, but is the project complete? Where could I download a full package of this mod?

No, and it is probably no longer being worked on, but you are free to work on it and expand it by yourself (I may help If I have enough time)

I don't think you can, but you can download the 0.96 unfinished version here Firefly.zip and a catalog with Red Star planets made by aadeon here: Firefly.sc. I haven't tested it though, and some parameters may be invalid or even cause SE to crash. Also, the life parameters are outdated in it for 0.97.1.

I will be inactive on this forum for the time being. Might come back eventually
