This looks great, but I tried it in Space Engine 0.97 and it didn't work, even with the code updated to match the new directory structure. Could anyone please help fix this issue, or even better, create a new topic explaining how to create custom spaceships in 0.97? That would be great.

How can you convert sm into obj? Is it really true that the current version only supports .obj, because the default mesh files are saved as .sm

You don't convert it, you save it as an obj from the editor (press the + at the top right to unlock the obj save button)

It does use sm, but it's not compatible with the ones used by 0.96.

Editor will be updated with the next SE patch (0.97.1).
But .obj export should work always.

I'm having the same issue as RockoRocks. Now here's what happens. I am able to get it to "add the starship" but when I teleport the ship to me or get it in view, it has trouble rendering it... it thinks it's there, I can even "fly" it. but the program just shows a Spazzing loading indicator, and no matter how long I sit. it never renders. And I've read through this whole thread... no idea what's going on.

Probably, SE needs in .mtl file in new version, so .obj cannot be imported too.
Just wait for 0.97.1 patch, Editor will be updated to support it without using .obj.

Will we still need to edit the spacecrafts.cfg file in 0.97.1?

No. New version of adding ships into SE will be simpler.
See this post.

Hi Everyone,
is it possible to create a ship editor that works similar to the one in the game Spore?
and some more parts maybe that allow sciencefiction looking ships,
I, for example are a stargate fan and it would be incredible awesome if i could build the Destiny or other ships.

The editor is already similar to Spore's one, there is a list of parts and you can put theme where you like, new parts will be implemented in future, mainly if SE will have a sort of Mothership smile

Also, welcome to the forum wink

Updated editor.

Major changes:
- Natively supports Space Engine v9.7.1
Now editor produces .sss script file, that you should save somewhere in "SE\models\spacecrafts".
So, no models or textures need to be downloaded.
- Added empty frames without communications and gold, silver and diamond shields.
- Added support for "rounded" shields (button near shield curve slider):

For advanced users it is possible to export spacecraft into ".obj" or single ".sm" file. In both cases mesh will be split into groups with different materials. To complete import of .sm you need to get default config and rename it to the same name as .sm file and get default sss, rename it and change settings inside it. Single .sm file occupies much more video memory, then modular ship, but it could be drawn faster.

To update editor just reload it from original post.
