"Search" function doesn't turn up some objects?

Hi all,

I don't know if I am using it wrong somehow or if this is a genuine limitation of the search function in the program, but I have found that some stars don't appear in the search list when you look for them.

I have tried:

HIP 19767
HIP 20019
HIP 18625

...and none of them appear when you try to go directly to them. But these stars are still rendered in the simulation. You can visit them manually.

If you travel from Aldebaran to Primus Hyadum, you will find HIP 19767 en route. If you move around the Hyades a bit you'll see HIP 20019. If you travel between 37 Tau and the Pleiades you'll see HIP 18625 come up.

(I have also noticed that some other stars don't appear in the search function - I haven't checked to see if they are actually there (maybe they are?), but for example, I tried to look at Iota Horologii, which should appear as "IOT Hor" in the search box, but it wouldn't appear in the list. - just solved this mystery. I went to Chi Eridani (which Wikipedia says is seven light-years from Iota Horologii) and set the near-star finder set to 3 parsecs - and found a star exactly matching Iota Horologii's description - it's just listed as HR 810 in SpaceEngine, so that's fine. But this wouldn't explain the HIP stars, because they actually are listed in SpaceEngine according to their hipparcos designations. I only got the names of those stars from finding them in SpaceEngine myself, in fact, so it can't be a name issue.)

(Finally, how do you search for stars with the "theta" designation? I wanted to go to Theta Tauri at one stage, and I would enter "The...", "Tht..." etc, but nothing showed up that looked like the Greek letter theta - yet there are dozens of stars with this designation. - just solved this myself too, sorry, the shorthand for "theta" is "TET" and Theta Tauri specifically is actually "TET1 Tau", not "TET Tau".)

What am I doing wrong?

Some (well, asmost all) HIP and HD stars are indeed didn't shown in the search menu. This is not a bug, but limitation of the menu implementation. It shows only HIP and HD stars which have exoplanets and has been modified in the script catalogs.
Although stars are not displayed in the list, you still can select them. Just type the name and hit enter. If the star exist in the catalog, it will be selected. Procedural stars can also be found/selected in the F3 menu, despite on they are also doesn't displayed there.

Ah thank-you very much! I'm selecting those stars from the menu right now and it works fine.
