So. I discovered how to use antialiasing in SE - real antialiasing, not that FXAA garbage. Simply turn off HDR and you can force it with the driver. Unfortunately given the issues with using SE with HDR off this is not something you'll want to do full-time, but it can be good in certain situations, and it makes spaceships look amazing.

In approximately 2 years I will have a computer with similar power to chromatic's computer. 2 whole years cry
But, oh well, I just gotta deal with my crappy driver (350 MB and SE is still runnable!)
But my computer is now willing to push it to it's limits and run a version of SE that's beyond the unpatched 0.96 and is now functioning at 0.97:
