Great video Hardts! To be honest I didn't expect so much quality from a "Homemade documentary". I'm sure without the video compression used by youtube it must look truly spectacular.

By the way, SpaceEngineer, I've just noticed that in the Video section you have an old demo video about SpaceEngine 0.5 with a procedural Earth in all its glory. Why did you change that? I'd rather have a procedural Earth that looks great no matter how close I get than the current implementation which looks perfectly realistic from far but terribly pixelated when getting close.

I think the Earth looked great in version 0.5, and I'm sure it would look even better if it was re-introduced in version 0.95 biggrin

Yes I understand the Space Engineer said it was very close.

Do you mean what have I done in 0.94? On the new episode: nothing. Haven't started yet.
As I said It'll be a week or two before I have the time to start working on it.

The Earth is not procedural! It uses NASA photo textures with resolution about 300 meters per pixel. This is the reason why Earth is so "blurry". SpaceEngine does't support generation of procedural details on "real" planets, like in Outerra. I'll make it in a future release, but not in 0.95.

I must finish some work that is still in progress:

- Detail textures and new surface types on planets of all classes
- Brown dwarfs and hot gas giants
- Proper lens flare effect
- [most important]: memory manager
- Many small bugs

That list sounds like a lot of great improvements, I can't wait to play Space Engine with new features. cool

I can't believe I still play this almost every day, I have over 300 screenshots haha.

OK, I was fooled by the close-up view of Earth where I could see 3D hills and mountains. Now I see I can do that in the current version too, if I approach close enough. The texture also looks more detailed than in version 0.94, but I guess that's because of the low resolution of the video.

In the video I use full texture pack with 300 meters resolution, its size ~5 Gb. In current release there is only 200 megs used.

Perhaps you could put those textures as a separate download, for those willing to spend the bandwidth on them.

SpaceEngineer has been wanting to make that file available for download, but he still needs somewhere to host that file, I think someone here offered to do it a while back, but I don't know if it ever happened or not.

Why not use megaupload? I think they don't allow files larger than 1Gb, but the file could be easily cut into pieces with WinRar or some other compression program.

You're right, one problem is hosting. The site hosting has only 300 Mb of free space.

According to their site, Megaupload allows up to 200Gb of file storage for free:
http://www.megaupload.com/?c=signup

You could also use Fileserve, where they are supposed to actually pay you if there are enough downloads for your files:
http://www.fileserve.com/signup.php

Perhaps they have some limitation I'm not aware of?

Moderator notice:

@BlackArk, How many more times are you going to post a question in the wrong thread? I've already explained this to you several times already: About being off topic. Your question has been moved to the right topic here: When is the next release due?

Allright - I'm about to start working on the next episode. The very first thing I do is find out where to go. So Talisman, (or others) if you have some interresting ideas - go right ahead smile
