This is problably going to sound very strange...
Ever since I discovered that black holes actually exist in Space Engine, I've had this habit of searching for them in star clusters. After a long search I decided to simply select the cluster and then press ctrl+g in order to fly to the centre. Focussing my attention on the screen, I kept my eyes peeled for any strange sightings. Aside from system consisting out of 5(!) stars nothing really happended untill -BANG- a black hole appeared on my screen, bending the light around itself. It was actually so terriffying that I had to cover the screen with my hand, turn the camera around, increase my spead, and fly away in terror. There's, simply put, something very strange and disturbing about seeing a large black mass appearing on my screen, bending the light around itself....

You cannot comprehend its true form! biggrin

Seriously though, I agree with to an extent. My reaction to black holes isn't as pronounced as yours, but my blood pressure increases slightly when I know I am near one. And this is just a simulation. They are simply...disturbing. Although I find flying near a gas giant (particularly in Orbiter where you do not readily have access to an FTL drive) much more unsettling, particularly when you start flying under the top cloud layers.

Imagine the old stellar holes out there. Without the visual aid of a galactic core system or a globular cluster as a reference, you might never see them coming.

I have a fear of large areas that are either dark or have no structure to them. so i get freaked out if i fly too far away from the galaxies, fly out of a galaxy without the magnitude adjusting, go on the dark side of a planet, or go near/on a gas giant like uranus that looks extremely foggy and empty in a way.

I can't say I've felt that way about black holes, but very large objects that slowly loom have a scery quality.

Interesting to read all the replies. A friend of mine recently played some space engine on my laptop. After showing her how to find black holes she decided to fly straight into one. As expected, she ended up flying straight through it, but I couldn't help but feel slightly disturbed when the black mass kept on getting larger and larger, distorting more of the screen.

Haha i feel a very similar feeling when pressing ctrl+g on a black hole.
I always press myself backwards against my chair, but I can manage it.

Ahaha, maybe I should make SpaceEngine crash artificially when the player goes inside a black hole? And then have SE make an awful sound with a frightening error message, like Windows "Blue screen of death", haha biggrin

That could be very good joke and some theory about 'what's inside a black hole' biggrin

Simulate a program crash and recover in some random point of space cool

Which reminds me... SpaceEngineer, you need to make a secret paradise planet that completely goes against the se algorithms and put it in the milky way. put it as a challenge to find it biggrin

yeah that sounds like a very good idea , like putting all your talent in art in one planet and put it in the milky way , every game has something special but of course other things have priority maybe in later releases ? ;p

Everyone can easly find a secret planet by reading catalog files. If only I make one system hard-coded into engine's source code smile

SpaceEngineer, have you thought about making a perhaps 3% chance for every terra with life to be an "Intelligent Terra with Life" because you have said you plan on adding lights on a dark side of a planet perhaps these intelligent ones could feature that and be a fun and rare type of planet to hunt for.
