My first SE video, bit of a dark ambient chill out.

I recorded it with fraps. I guess I should use the in built recorder to reading an earlier post in the thread.

Kurt has a new video up.

He always seems so uncomfortable with the program.

I like the fact that we get publicity, but damn I wish we had a better advocate than him, watching him use SE is like gruesome torture.

Scott Manley seems to have a bit more sleight of hand with this, but still not enough for good promotion.
Space Engine is hard to get along with.

Its pretty straight forward on the end these people tend to mess up on. The hard to get along with stuff isn't what most people will be doing with the software.

Well, it's true that the controls are kind of messed up for us European azerty's, but it's really just a matter of getting used to the program.
What bothers me more is his lack of knowledge. Instead of just typing Apophis in the search bar, he starts looking for it in the map...
That's like buying a GPS and then trying to find the way by yourself either way...

I set a really wide FOV when recording.

Aaron, the video was great, but it is squished vertically.

chromatic9, I just got a chance to watch your vid in 1080p, and I must congratulate you, it is fantastic. It looks especially good for a Fraps recording, well done.

Thanks a lot guys.

HarbingerDawn, thanks and yes you're right about the diffraction spikes set to simple (been meaning to login into youtube to say). When I first got SE, normal setting seemed a bit full on when looking directly at a star. Super doesn't seem to make a difference. I then downloaded Astroniki's fantastic mod and forgot to try normal during the vid recordings. My latest screenshots are set to normal and it does look better.

I tried the built-in capture but it gives you hundreds of jpgs, my framerate goes to 4fps and subsequently can't control what's on screen. Not managed to read anything about the in built capture so I'm maybe doing something wrong?

The built in capture system basically outputs raw frames as fast as it can, calibrated to a frame rate and in a format that you can specify in the main.cfg file (default framerate is calibrated to 24 fps, default format is jpg). TGA format allows for the fastest possible recording, but each of the frames will be huge in size because it's an uncompressed format. Then you need to compile the frames together using another piece of software of your choice. This method has the benefit of providing the most smooth and high quality video (because all loading is done before a frame is rendered and frames can be of lossless quality), but has the drawbacks of requiring more work to get the final video file, and making it a lot harder to control the camera while recording (0.97 will have several new features that will make control a good deal easier when recording).

The reason I noticed is that with them set to simple the landscape does not block the flare when the sun goes behind it, which is why in one shot the flare was showing through the terrain. With normal this would not happen.

Super doesn't seem to make a difference.

When far from a sun super just behaves like normal. When close up it actually creates multiple flares across the whole of the sun, so that blocking the center of the sun does not block all flares (which would look quite unrealistic). It has the drawback of affecting flare color, being a bit buggy, and causing massive slowdowns on most machines.

I made a video with some information and opinions about procedural generation in general,
and since it endorses Space Engine, I thought I would post it here.

The Case for Procedural Generation

I hope I wasn't wrong about any of the things I said dry
